In this first volume, Captain Cooke recounts his experiences with the 43rd Foot at Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, the battles of Salamanca, Vittoria, the Pyrenees, the Bidassoa, the Nive, Nivelle and Toulouse. As with many of the British officer memoirs, there is a tone of dry wit about his writing.
