Milton

This is a lovely little book on John Milton. Written in 1915 it is one of the most perceptive readings of the character of the man I have come across. While in appropriate awe of his subject, Bailey never loses perspective of Milton's flaws and humanity. Bailey's readings of the poems are intelligent and elegant. Bailey's scholarship is never heavy handed but is infused with insights and a great love of his subject.
