Retired detective Bill O'Shea's summer is off to a great start. He's made new friends, taken up the game of pickleball, and adopted a dog. But then a victim is found murdered, and the short-staffed police ask Bill to help out.

At the crime scene, Bill realizes that the murder weapon—a blue-handled knife—belongs to his good friend Kim, the local café manager. As the evidence mounts against Kim, Bill races to find other suspects. But with his loyalty split, he has to navigate carefully to keep the trust of the Wintergreen police department.

Meanwhile, the commonwealth attorney aims to make a name for himself with a life sentence against Kim. Can Bill beat the odds and solve the case, or will he lose a good friend forever?
