Not Our Kind

Anne longed to go to a special girls' school, one that would please her dad. 

After a scary interview with a snooty headmistress, Anne knew something was wrong, and she suspected it was more about her parents than her academic ability. She'd been top of her class and loved to learn new things, but she felt as if she must be weird, especially after she saw a new friend's straight toes, so unlike her short stubby ones that curled down like caterpillars. Every day she checked for a letter from the school and when nothing came, she got more and more frantic.
