Introduction Athletes and sports dietitians have sought post-exercise nutritional strategies that will enhance muscle glycogen resynthesis after exercise, enhance recovery and maintain or improve the quality of future workouts or performances. (1-3) Athletes may participate in one or more training sessions a day with anywhere from 6 to 24 hours of recovery between workouts. (3) A principal component of training for an elite athlete is to maximise training in order to increase potential for competition. Because full and often rapid recovery is necessary for optimal performance, (2) athletes should practise nutritional strategies that maximise recovery.
