Many forms of torture were used on detainees during the most recent military regimes in Argentina and Brazil, in some instantes the children were included or were abducted and adopted by military families or sympathizers of the fascist regimes. Two recent films Kamchatka from Argentina (Marcelo Pineyro 2003) and O ano em que meus pais sairam de ferias from Brazil (Cao Hamburger 2006) treat the subject of parents having to unwillingly abandon their children in order to protect them when they are sought by the authorities. Both movies are narrated from the point of view of a boy whose parents choose to leave him with his grandparents, otherwise the films are very different.
