Description de l’éditeur
At the Westcote express office, a trivial shipping question turns into a full-scale comic battle when Mike Flannery and Mr. Morehouse clash over the rate for two guinea-pigs. Flannery insists they must be charged as "pigs," while Morehouse argues they are domestic pets, and their argument quickly becomes a test of stubbornness, logic, and bureaucratic language. Furious, Morehouse files a complaint, convinced he has exposed the company's absurdity and will force Flannery to yield. Instead, the grievance moves from office to office with official indifference as the animals remain in limbo. Flannery faithfully tends the guinea-pigs and keeps reporting their rapidly increasing numbers, treating them as pigs in every practical sense. The company's Tariff Department eventually backs him, even billing Morehouse for feed and care. When Flannery later presents a bill for cabbage consumed by the now-enormous guinea-pig family, Morehouse refuses to pay, and the dispute escalates into a company-wide inquiry involving executives and a zoology professor. As the experts debate classification, the animals multiply, and the story's humor grows from escalating bureaucracy and the absurd consequences of taking rules too literally.
