Amber is stunned when her uncle, whom she hasn't seen since childhood, arrives after her grandfather's funeral with a conservatorship over her. Kept a prisoner at a psychiatric clinic, she escapes with the help of a remarkably clever cat. Together, they embark on a cross-country journey in search of safety. But when they find a place Amber loves and wants to settle, an annoying stranger may ruin her plans and break her heart.
