"The Town of Pine Gap was like Facebook even before there was Facebook and everyone was your friend whether you had “friended” them or not. Busybodies tracked your every move and rumors flew faster than wireless." Mandy Bolton's life is consumed with others and she keeps her dreams small-town. As a driven social worker, she crowds everything else out of her life caring for her family and the less fortunate of Pine Gap. Even her best friend is an elderly dementia patient she visits nicknamed “Sadie” who claims to have been a Women’s "WASP" Pilot during World War II.

Mandy is from the wrong side of town, lives in Lion's Gate Trailer Park, and simply has no time for Pine’s Church and people like Velma Stanton who have hurt her in the past. “They brag about their exclusive social club they call a church, write sterile checks, and throw cookies from their posh cars convincing themselves they are doing the work of God.” Mandy has real work to do, people to help, and just doesn’t want to hear their mess.

But God and her friend Sadie seem to have different plans for her life when she crosses paths with Luke Bradford, a former fighter pilot and unconventional new pastor at Pine’s. Luke is determined to lead Pine's Church out of the grip of history towards a new future. He is also battling a haunting and secretive past of his own.
