Satan

Bobby Ratcliffe's moonlit boredom aboard the polished yacht Dryad vanishes when a shabby little yawl appears off Palm Island, carrying the promise of a far stranger life. Curious enough to row over in his pajamas, he is swept into the orbit of the Tyler family: the rough-tongued Satan, the fierce, boyish Jude, and a world of improvised seamanship, scavenged books, hidden caches, and hard-won independence. What begins in comic surprise becomes a deeper fascination as Bobby is fed, clothed, and welcomed into their confidence. He learns of wreck salvage, secret stores, old losses, and the precarious freedom that keeps the Sarah Tyler roaming the Caribbean outside respectable society. Yet beneath the wit and bravado lies strain: Jude's overwork, pride, and vulnerability surface in sharp quarrels and sudden tears, revealing how fragile this life can be. Torn between Skelton's rigid propriety and the Tylers' reckless charm, Bobby is drawn ever further into their secretive, adventurous world, where loyalty, ingenuity, and danger travel together.
