Charles Kingsley was an English priest, historian and novelist, famous mostly for his works Hypatia, Hereward the Wake and Westward Ho! Due to his interest in history, Kingsley then turned to writing historical novels and achieved a great success after publishing his works Hereward the Wake and Westward Ho! 

Scientific Lectures and Essays is a unique collection of Charles Kingsley's essays on various topics of science, including On Bio-Geology, The Study of Natural History, Superstition, Science, Thoughts in a Gravel-Pit, How to Study Natural History, The Natural Theology of the Future. Although written more than a hundred years ago, the book is still full of interesting and useful information.
