Speaking for Cheats

The awesome sequel to Designed for Murder, our hero gets involved in another mystery. "Another home run for one of our favorite mysteries..."

"Smarty was diving for me. His mouth a wide 0 and his eyes almost as big. His arms were stretched out toward me and his hands splayed. For a second I thought he’d merely tripped because he looked like he was grabbing for support. But then I saw something over his shoulder. It was a gun being held in an extended hand. As Smarty reached me he grabbed at me, his fingers raking down my front as he fell. Now the gun was clearly aimed at me.
I wish I could claim I thought about it but in the half step I took backward and with Smarty falling against me I lost my balance and fell over and one of the dancers must have kicked me in the head as I hit the floor. All I remember for certain is the screams and then I seemed to have lost consciousness. Maybe I just past out in fear, but either way it all faded to black."
