Stem To Stern

Stem to Stern turns the practical lessons of Beech Hill Industrial School into a lively tale of sailing, craftsmanship, and hard-won courage on Lake Champlain. At the center is Paul Bristol, a quiet but resolute young hero whose loyalty is tested in rescues, rivalries, and a brutal class conflict with the wealthy Billcords. When Walk Billcord tries to force Lily Bristol into a rowboat, Paul and his mother rush to her aid, and the struggle soon exposes Major Billcord's arrogance, his abuse of power, and the vulnerability of a poor family with little protection. Amid boatbuilding, seamanship, and outdoor adventure, Dory Dornwood proves his skill by calmly taking command of the Silver Moon in rough water, while Paul faces ambush, danger, and the demands of justice. The story builds to a stirring revelation aboard the steam yacht Undine, where Paul discovers that the engineer is his long-lost father, Peter Bristol. In the end, family is restored, the cottage homecoming is joyful, and perseverance, ingenuity, and moral courage triumph over greed and intimidation.
