“Are you ready for the roller coaster ride that is The Club? . . . A beautifully written, densely plotted murder mystery that takes place at a private club off the coast of England. Read about a luxurious, celeb-only island during a weekend of partying and ultimately murder.” —Reese Witherspoon (Reese’s Book Club March ’22 Pick)
From the author of People Like Her comes a smart and sinister murder mystery set in the secretive world of exclusive celebrity clubs.
Everyone's Dying to Join . . .
The Home Group is a glamorous collection of celebrity members' clubs dotted across the globe, where the rich and famous can party hard and then crash out in its five-star suites, far from the prying eyes of fans and the media.
The most spectacular of all is Island Home—a closely-guarded, ultraluxurious resort, just off the English coast—and its three-day launch party is easily the most coveted A-list invite of the decade.
But behind the scenes, tensions are at breaking point: the ambitious and expensive project has pushed the Home Group's CEO and his long-suffering team to their absolute limits. All of them have something to hide—and that's before the beautiful people with their own ugly secrets even set foot on the island.
As tempers fray and behavior worsens, as things get more sinister by the hour and the body count piles up, some of Island Home’s members will begin to wish they’d never made the guest list.
Because at this club, if your name’s on the list, you’re not getting out.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
A ritzy island getaway is the perfect setting for this star-studded take on the classic whodunit. Beneath the luxurious surface of CEO Ned Groom’s exclusive celebrity resorts, his beleaguered staff are always working furiously to keep things running smoothly. So with just as much careful planning going into the Halloween opening of Ned’s most exclusive retreat yet, no one expects the luxe event to end in murder. Skillfully told through multiple viewpoints, Ellery Lloyd’s posh, celebrity-filled murder mystery is deliciously fun. Between the misbehaving wannabes, has-beens, and insufferable A-listers—plus Ned’s constant tantrums—the pool of likely killers and potential victims just keeps growing. Pay close attention to the gossip going around, and you might pick up on some secret relationships and a few juicy clues. When the stars fall in this deadly romp, they fall hard.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This masterly thriller from the pseudonymous Lloyd (People like Her) effectively delays revealing who among the large cast of characters has died violently. Ned Groom has created exclusive clubs around the world for the elite of the elite, who pay huge sums to have their every whim catered to. Groom has just launched his most spectacular branch yet, on a private island 90 minutes from London, accessible by car only by a causeway at low tide. Its amenities include Poseidon, a fishbowl-like restaurant with views of the surrounding sea. The prologue, in which two unidentified people in a Land Rover halfway across the causeway realize they aren't going to make it as the tide rapidly rises, is followed by a Vanity Fair article, "Murder on the Island," which describes Poseidon patrons noticing a submerged Land Rover and its grim contents outside the window. That development and the discovery of a body on the island turn "the party of the year" into "the murder mystery of the decade." Flashbacks provide an array of suspects and motives. Lloyd (husband-and-wife writing team Collette Lyons and Paul Vlitos) makes the reader care about even unappealing characters, and the payoff is completely satisfying. Fans of Ruth Ware's One by One will be riveted.
