The Interior Castle

Written in 1577 by the Spanish Carmelite mystic Teresa of Avila, The Interior Castle is one of the most beloved guides to the spiritual life ever composed. This modern-English edition renders Teresa's luminous vision of the soul as a crystal castle with seven dwelling places, each a stage of deepening prayer and intimacy with God. With warmth, clarity, and psychological insight, Teresa walks with readers from the first stirrings of self-knowledge through the dry seasons of discipline to the prayer of quiet, the prayer of union, and finally the transforming embrace of the spiritual marriage. Faithful to the original's meaning and spirit, this edition makes a timeless classic inviting for today's readers, whether they come to it as seekers, students, or longtime lovers of contemplative wisdom.
