The Last Munro

Mirrie Carpenter is ten. Her real name, Miranda, always seemed too flouncy. Mum left home when Mirrie was very small so Mirrie lives with her dad, Joe. He always blames his obsession with climbing all the Scottish mountains, or Munros, for the separation but Mirrie suspects there's more to it... Joe cuts a striking figure with his long hair and biker gear. Every spare weekend, he and Mirrie bomb up to Scotland by motorbike with Esme the doll on the tank. As Joe comes to the end of the nearly three hundred Munros, he is laid low by a terrible illness that threatens to rob him of energy at a moment's notice. He won't give up, however, and must rely on Mirrie's courage and resourcefulness when his illness places them both in danger.
