Description de l’éditeur

The republication of the MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation The First Twenty Years and The Next Twenty Years, tells the story of MSC Software's first 20 years developing software to simulate complex engineering problems and looks forward to the next 20 years of challenges as part of Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence Design and Engineering division.

As a trusted partner, Hexagon helps companies improve quality, save time and reduce costs associated with the engineering, production and metrology of manufactured products. Our software, services and experts help accurately and reliably predict how products will behave in the real world to help engineers design a more sustainable and autonomous future.

Hexagon’s Design and Engineering technologies are used by leading manufacturers across all industries for linear and nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA), acoustics, fluid-structure interaction (FSI), multi-physics, optimization, fatigue and durability, multi-body dynamics, and more.

About the Author

Dr. Richard H. MacNeal founded MSC Software Corporation along with Robert Schwendler in 1963 under the name of MacNeal-Schwendler Corporation (MSC). Under his leadership, MSC developed its first structural analysis software and was deeply involved in the early efforts of the aerospace industry to improve early finite element analysis technology. In response to a 1965 request for proposal from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) MSC Software released a commercial version of Nastran, named MSC Nastran. MSC Nastran contributed greatly to the early efforts of the aerospace industry by successfully simulating on-the-ground physical testing through computing to deliver the right answers and right physics to take humans to the moon. Dr. MacNeal's numerous technical innovations has dramatically improved the quality of engineering analysis and his entrepreneurial drive to commercialize analysis technology has enabled thousands of companies in virtually every manufacturing segment throughout the world to significantly improve their products and shorten their development cycles. Dr. MacNeal leaves behind 50+ years of technical contributions to the global CAE community.

Dr. Bruce Engelmann was appointed Chief Technology Officer at MSC in March 2020. He is responsible for technology leadership, research and development, and product-line related functions for design and engineering within Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence. Dr. Engelmann has been a thought leader and champion of computational science and multi-physics driven design and optimization for more than 30 years. He was elected into the National Academy of Engineering in 2018. Before joining MSC, he served as Chief Technology Officer for many years in the CAE space and was a principal in multiple technology start-ups. He graduated with a Ph.D in Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University and a BS/MS at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
