       This is a story of providence in the 1800s in Scotland. Hardworking eighteen-year-old Caleb Renwick and his family face great hardships. The landlord terrorizes them, his father becomes unexpectedly handicapped, and Caleb loses the best job of his life. Caleb and his family are able to overcome being hurt, losing a possible fortune, and being abandoned. His bravery, optimism, and a few miracles prevail even against even death. Several remarkable twists will delight a reader of any age.
