Description de l’éditeur

This book combines the five years of diaries, from 1912 through 1916, written by Mary Louise Wholean, at the time when Maryknoll was little more than a dream. With two other women, she came to Hawthorne, NY, at the request of Fr. James Anthony Walsh, to work on the publication he had begun in 1906, "The Field Afar," a magazine designed to kindle the universal call to mission among U.S. Catholics. Beyond that, Fr. Walsh could offer no security to the women for their future. As the diary progresses, the reader becomes aware of a distinct future which evolves into the foundation of the Maryknoll Sisters Congregation on February 14, 1920.
