The Wandering Gorillas

New Second Edition

Description de l’éditeur

Stories of the research by Dr Alan Goodall on the lives of the rare Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo. Initially in the Virunga Volcanoes of Rwanda - as the first scientist to work with the late Dian Fossey. Later in Kahuzi-Biega National Park near Bukavu in DRC. There, Alan was based at IRSAC, Lwiro - under the enlightened Director Dr Peter Kunkel. His study gorillas had been partially habituated by Adrien Deschryver - the park’s Conservator. This research was the first comparative study of two populations of mountain gorillas - living in different forest types. In addition to details of the gorillas behaviour Alan describes the problems of conservation and especially the battles waged by Dian Fossey against so many people.  Especially the Pygmoid Batwa who were evicted from their forest homes to create these National Parks - and who now have huge problems of their own survival.
