Things We Used to Know

'Brilliant and important: an extraordinary evocation of a lost time, and hugely enjoyable!' PAT KENNY

Do you remember …

- Old money?

- Roman numerals?

- Seanfhocail learned by rote?

- The rules for fractions and grammar?

- The rivers, mountains and counties of Ireland?

You might be surprised by how much of what you learned at school is still tucked away in your memory.

In Things We Used to Know, retired primary school teacher John Burke opens the classroom door on a rich store of knowledge, memories and stories from an Irish education. From inkwells, packed lunches and school tours to Irish mythology, literature, geography and the wonders of the natural world, this nostalgic collection will have you testing what you remember, rediscovering what you have forgotten and delighting in what you never knew.
