In the wreckage of civilization, the most rebellious act was friendship. 

TR.8C is an engineered soldier — one of eighteen TR units deployed to alien worlds so humanity's last survivors can find a new home. She isn't supposed to form bonds. She isn't supposed to grieve. Feelings are a defect. Friendship is a flaw. 

But when her closest companion doesn't make it back to the ship, TR.8C does the one thing a TR unit should never do. 

She goes back.
