Mathilda Stormcrow had just been crowned queen, after her father was poisoned by rebels, when she realized they were losing the war. The rebels conquered more land by the day, desertions in the royal army were at all time high, and with her father's death some of their allies were starting to question their allegiances.

They would lose the war, and she would lose everything, if they didn't find a way to bolster their numbers.

And the solution seemed obvious to her, if not exactly pleasant. For centuries, the werewolf clans to the north of Stormcrow had been in conflict with the kingdom, and losing for the most part, but they were tremendous warriors nonetheless, and for too long had her father tried to find peace with them. It hadn't been possible, but then he hadn't been willing to sacrifice enough for it. She was.

She would offer herself to the wolves' alpha as a bride, offer them peace so long as they fought for her, assure the werewolves a place in her kingdom where they could live in peace.
