VINCENT O’SULLIVAN (1868–1940) was an American short story writer, poet and critic. In addition to a biography of Oscar Wilde, his works dealt with the morbid, the decadent, and the supernatural. His collection of supernatural fiction, When I Was Dead contains a same-named ghost story, and the pact-with the devil stories, "The Bargain of Rupert Orange", and The Business of Madame Jahn, which feature reanimated corpses. O’Sullivan has long been forgotten, but recently there has been renewed interest in his unique writing style and themes, including Opinions, essays written in the 1930’s which deal with such artists as George Moore, Ouida, George Gissing, Gertrude Atherton, and Frank Harris among others.
