An Apple Books Classic edition.

Oh joy! LeVar Burton narrates Charles Dickens’ family classic.

It’s Christmas Eve in Victorian England. While some families don’t know where their next meal will come from, Ebenezer Scrooge sits in his large home, counting his vast wealth. Like every other night, he’s alone. But when he’s visited by three spirits, Scrooge is forced to reflect on his callousness and stinginess.

Dickens was passionate about affecting social issues through his stories. A Christmas Carol offered readers the gift of empathy toward working families, orphans, and others who encountered daily challenges. Almost 200 years and many adaptations later—including the Apple Original Film Spirited, a modern musical rendition starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds—this beloved tale remains a resonant celebration of generosity and community.

My review on LeVar Burton reading A Christmas Carol

I just want to point out that LeVar Burton is a wonderful narrator but I just think he was miscast. I thought it should’ve been read with a more English accent than American. The story of A Christmas Carol is a childhood favourite of mine so loved Charles Dickens’s story and LeVar is a great narrator but he was miscast and definitely think he should read more books fit for him. Still really enjoyed it and it was much better than some! Helped me in GCSEs so loved it! Overall not my favourite and I recommend listening to Stacey Arthur reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

This is a great audiobook to use if you are doing Christmas carol GCSE this year as you can listen wherever you are and for free. This is helping me out massively.

Miscast Narrator

A truly wonderful story, but, with upmost respect, it’s difficult to understand why they chose to pick an American narrator for a story set in Victorian England. There’s too many colloquialisms in the story to be pulled off by an American.
