oh dear...
What the hell is this? The poems are poorly read, but that's just the start... what is going on in the background? strange noodling jazz guitar, explosions, swooshing wind sounds, orchestral chords, bells and tinkling sounds, meandering flute noises - and none of it makes sense with what is happening in the poem! To describe it as 'distracting' would be an understatement. If you want to hear the real thing find Paul Scofield reading The Waste Land and The Four Quartets - masterly! - or find T.S. Eliot reading his own work. Don't let this disappointing effort put you off these great poems...
Really... don't bother
As I have an exam on Eliot poetry in a couple of days I thought I would be clever and get the "Selected Poems" on an audiobook. Me, being optimistic and hopeful, payed for this inexcusable piece of crap thinking it would help. It doesn't. It is NOT the same selected poems from the published book. The background music is sometimes louder than the speaker. Who sometimes reads really fast, but then other times very very slow with massive 'musical' (errr... as if, its just b*ll*cks) pauses. There is a whole bit at the end (which I stupidly presumed was a reading of the Wasteland) which is just noise. I understand there is a connection between some of Eliots poetry and music but this is stupid. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! The makers of this should be sued for misleading people that it is TS Eliot Selected Poems.
Between the desire and the dream
Mostly bad sound effects.
