To fight or forgive
A deeply empathetic and well researched novel based on the religious customs and tradition of electing a pope. The main characters are so finely drawn that the reader is immediately drawn into the story, which reads like a thriller. Philosophical questions underpin the narrative. Does one believe or put one’s faith in God, or the Church? In a rule-based order, what role does conscience play? Are relativism and absolutism always mutually exclusive?
God would surely approve!
Worth a listen
Enjoyable audiobook. Well narrated good plot which kept me guessing.
Well paced and with more excitement than you would expect
As a non religious person I came to this with a lack of knowledge of the fine detail and an curiosity to know more, but also an expectation that it may be a bit on the dry side. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was anything but that.
Very well read, particularly given the amount of Italian / Latin phrasing involved. The tone in which it was read was also very appropriate given the subject matter. Some audiobooks can actually less a book with the use of the wrong narrator. In this case it very much enhanced it. Well done.
