It's Robert Louis Stevenson's immortal story of adventure on the high seas. Young David Balfour is cheated out of his inheritance by his uncle, who then has him kidnapped and forced into servitude on a sailing ship bound for a long voyage. What follows is one of the most spellbinding stories ever written. Over the years, it has attracted the praise and admiration of writers as diverse as Henry James, Jorge Luis Borges, and Seamus Heaney.
The worst attempt at a Scottish accent ever?
When I chose this version to download, itunes was crashing when I tried playing the sample, so I didn't hear what the narrator sounded like. Had I done so, I would have gone to a different version.
Kidnapped is a good story and a good book, but the narrater of this audiobook made it almost painful to listen to. Without a doubt, his was the worst atempt at a Scottish accent I have ever encountered and his attempt at characterisations were just laughable, mostly consisting getting as squeeky as possible. His pronounciation of places and names, and nouns in general was almost painful.
If you want to hear Kidnapped try the other versions first.
