Penguin presents the audio download edition of La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman, read by Michael Sheen.
Eleven-year-old Malcolm Polstead and his dæmon, Asta, live with his parents at the Trout Inn near Oxford. Across the River Thames (which Malcolm navigates often using his beloved canoe, a boat by the name of La Belle Sauvage) is the Godstow Priory where the nuns live. Malcolm learns they have a guest with them; a baby by the name of Lyra Belacqua . . .
"As a reader and a fan, I was hugely excited on hearing that Phillip was returning to the story of Lyra and Dust and challenging the Authority. And, as an actor, it was a true privilege to be asked to record La Belle Sauvage, the first book of this new work." Michael Sheen
"The best piece of narration I've ever heard" - The Bookseller
"Michael Sheen's narration of Philip Pullman's new novel is better than an army of voice actors his voice is impressive, from the crisp, definitive consonants of its higher registers to the rumbly bass notes Sheen summons when some menace enters the scene, to the vast, buttery expanse of his middle range." APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
This audiobook is actually a master class in performance. Michael Sheen calls on his great skill and versatility to deliver a wonderful reading of Philip Pullman’s dark and gripping fantasy. The Welsh actor embodies the novel’s sweet, smart 11-year-old hero just as convincingly as the chilling malevolence of predatory villain Gerard Bonneville; he also does an outstanding job as a manically cackling hyena. Every chapter is delivered with expertly measured intrigue and suspense—we found it almost impossible to hit pause before the full 13 hours were done.

Amazing
I just read this book and this book is absolutely awesome.
It tells a great venture of eleven year old Malcom, who is a great hero.
Beautifully read
Fantastic book, worthy of the original series. A few odd bits in the storyline which jarred for me a little but others might like them so hey oh. The narration is superb.
The Book of Dust
Fantastic, Michael Sheen has ruined all other audiobooks books for me now as nothing else compares to his fantastic work,
The book is gripping and left me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next book to come out and can only hope Michael Sheen will be reading it.
