Not Bond
Awful. After enjoying all Flemings 007 novels as audiobooks, took a punt on this. Gardiner has not grasped the style at all. Bonds character is poorly defined here and he wafts through the cliched storyline like a waif. The rhythm is all wrong. When bond is in the middle of an action scene, you don’t want to be bogged down with detailed description of sights, smells, architecture! You want action. Fleming was a master at such subtleties and perfectly understood the rhythm of the narrative. This is not Bond, this is not Fleming.
