Days after Holmes and his arch-enemy Moriarty fall to their doom at the Reichenbach Falls, Pinkerton agent Frederick Chase arrives from New York. The death of Moriarty has created a poisonous vacuum which has been swiftly filled by a fiendish new criminal mastermind. Amazing
This is by far my favourite book this year. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Can’t recommend.
Deliberately disconnects itself from a lot of what was previously understood about the character and also the ‘adventure of the final problem’. There are cameo appearances that feel like a meaningless attempt to force a reference. Inspector Jones feels like he was randomly chosen to fit into a completely new mould, when making another character altogether would’ve been better. The ultimate twist at multiple points revealed things that made me wonder why I should give a toss about both the events of the book and Moriarty himself.
