A lot of names that go nowhere
Im afraid to say after being told I would love a story like this, quick to read, ‘like a female Conan’, I had to absolutely slog through it. It felt like an endless cavalcade of names of great houses with little happening between them. The action is over in seconds and broadly weak when it arrives. The interplay is stilted and seemingly endless. For a book that’s only six hours long, it felt glacial in its pacing. Pacing that goes absolutely nowhere by the way. Be prepared for an incredibly ‘meh’ ending as well. I shan’t be returning to these characters I’m afraid.
