Publisher Description

Lena Adams has spent her life struggling to escape her past. She has only unhappy memories of Reece, the small town that nearly destroyed her. She's made a new life for herself as a police detective in Heartsdale, a hundred miles away. But nothing could prepare her for the violence that explodes when she is forced to return. A vicious murder leaves a young woman incinerated beyond recognition. And Lena is the only suspect.

When Heartsdale Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver, Lena's boss, receives word that his detective has been arrested, he has no choice but to go to Lena's aid, taking with him his wife, Medical Examiner Sara Linton. But soon after their arrival, a second victim is found. The town closes ranks. And both Jeffrey and Sara find themselves entangled in a horrifying underground world of bigotry and rage - a violent world which shocks even them, a world that puts their own lives in jeopardy.

Only Jeffrey and Sara can free Lena from the web of lies, betrayal, and brutality that has trapped her. But can they discover the truth before the killer strikes again?

Music?

Love the book but the music is sooooo annoying! I don’t want a dramatised version. I want someone reading the book without special effects or music. And what’s with the repeating lines? The annoying music plays over a sentence, then new music on its own, then the line that played with the music is repeated on its own. This isn’t the first time this has happened in this series. First time I thought it was a glitch m. It’s so annoying.

Hmmm....

I hate to be the bearer of negative feedback, but I was really disappointed with this audiobook. I found the reader grating, she read it like she was some kind of robot and clearly hadn't had much experience reading for audiobooks previously. Plus the REALLY irritating and completely out of sync music that came on at the dramatic climax at the end. I loved Karin's other books, so I may go and buy the hardcopy book to see if it really was the reader who ruined it for me!

Strange!

This wins the prize for most inappropriate use of incidental music EVER. I read the poor reviews but unfortunately couldn't get a different or unabridged version in this country (sort it out Random House!) it's a really important book in a long series so to be lumbered with this woeful recording was a real let down. If you're able, read the actual book instead
