The Lost Room by Fitz-James O'Brien is a pioneering work of weird fiction and psychological horror. Set during an oppressively hot summer night in a gloomy New York lodging, the story follows an unnamed narrator who begins to leisurely inventory the ordinary objects in his room—only to step outside and return to find the space completely transformed into a surreal, nightmarish realm of uncanny strangers and shifting reality. Blending domestic realism with existential dread, The Lost Room remains a classic masterpiece of early speculative and supernatural fiction.

Narrated by horror author Jonathan Dunne.
