Much about Katherine Ryan’s first book The Audacity will hardly feel surprising. There’s the blistering, razor-sharp wit that’s made the Canadian one of Britain’s best-loved comedians (and her narration here proves exactly why that is), as well as Ryan’s typically fearless takes on everything from cancel culture (including that NME Awards moment with UK artist slowthai), single parenthood, plastic surgery, the misogyny she’s faced as a female comedian and—in this book’s most memorable moment—potty training her daughter Violet when she was just 10 months old. There is, too, the fact that The Audacity is, frankly, hilarious, with particular thanks to the panache and impeccable comic timing of her narration. But alongside all of that, there are also genuinely affecting revelations about Ryan’s journey from smalltown Canadian girl to comedy superstar, which—despite her ultra-fast, easy to gulp down prose—will stop you in your tracks.

Fantastic insight
I am already a fan of Katherine’s podcast and comedy but this was a really interesting insight into her overall life with some nice antidotes and relatable stories. Highly recommend!

A great book! Absolutely loved listening to this. Beautifully read by Katherine herself. I loved hearing about her story, told in a very honest way. Loved the bonus at the end too.
