Do you sometimes behave irrationally or impulsively? Do you face some situations with fear and trepidation? Do feelings of self-doubt consume everyday activities?
Leading Consultant Psychiatrist, Prof Steve Peters, knows more than anyone how impulsive behaviour or nagging self-doubt can impact negatively on our professional and personal lives.
In this, his first book, Steve shares his phenomenally successful mind management programme that has been used to help elite athletes and senior managers alike to conquer their fears and operate with greater control, focus and confidence.
Seemingly complex concepts are made simple with the use of memorable analogies -- such as the 'chimp', that seemingly irrational and impulsive being that inhabits our minds -- and real-life case studies. Never before will you have had such a deep and clear understanding of your own behaviour and natural responses to certain people or situations.
This knowledge, combined with simple techniques that can be easily incorporated into daily life, will help you to control your emotional impulses and reach your full potential, leading to success at work and a happier, harmonious home life.

Superb- as good as it gets
Simple without being simplistic. Id rather a book was simplified and i feel i could cope with slightly more info, than being lost in terminology or concepts i might struggle with and this book deals with this perfectly. This book is well read, organised, easy to understand, inspiring and enlightening. Remember, Dr Steve Peters is a lecturer as well as a doctor and expert, so he's a genius at getting concepts across for you. If you wish to further understand yourself better, get a grip on life, your personality and or anxiety, THIS is the book for you. Can't recommend highly enough. Well done Steve Peters!
I have to say that I couldn't disagree more with the review below, Steve has to make it clear for us simple folk to understand...
I'm 300 minutes into this audio book and already it has helped me with a number of situations where previously I would reacted in a different way. For example, for my job I have to fly quite regularly and whilst I'm an ok flier at the first sign of turbulence I normally break into a cold sweat and start clutching tightly to the arm rests. Last week I flew 4 times (first time since starting the book) and encountered varying degrees of turbulence, but not at any stage did it bother me or did I fear for my safety.. At one point I looked over and saw a guy clutching the arm rests and thought that used to be me a month ago.
This is a great book, slow going at times and I sometimes have to rewind to make sure understand a point, but everyone should give it a go as it will definitely change parts of your life.
Great book, great insight even better on audio book
