Pakman is required reading in 2025
Full disclosure: David Pakman is a regular on my YouTube and podcast weekly consumption. His way of digesting and interpreting the goings-on in US politics is second-to-none and his presentation style is calm and with the right amount of humour. I was with him (virtually) throughout the events of 6 Jan 2021. Some of my spellings and that date formatting will reveal that I am based on the other side of the Atlantic from David Pakman so can look at the USA slightly smugly - albeit increasingly concerned that UK and EU are heading in the same downward direction.
Anyway, I eagerly awaited this book and particularly the audiobook read by the author. Thankfully I find it does not disappoint and it has his signature style and thoughtful setting out of the state of things and his calm and informed assessment of how progressive people might be able to combat this age-old problem that we are currently experiencing of a lurch to conservatism, religious dogma and populism for the personal gain of power and money by the elite few. His assessment of the structurally anti-democratic governmental structure that exists in the USA explains a great deal of how it’s got to this.
Admittedly it is odd to hear David reading some of this and hearing him correctly pronouncing for, example, “Truth Social”.
Anyway, I congratulate David Pakman on this book, and specifically this audiobook which I’m sure was an effort to record, and I wish him well in all he’s does. He and other progressive/left independent media content makers are needed now as much as ever to break through the populist cult-like-group-think and rhetoric that is pervading so much of the US mainstream media and social media channels.
