I love Tom Wood audio books but…….
I have listened to all of the Tom Wood “Victor” series books up to now and they are very, very good and brilliantly narrated. But this and the previous book, A Time To Die have really weird decisions to the narration.
For some reason there has been a decision to narrate in the voice and accent of the character that is most relevant at that time. It just comes across as wrong.
Adding to the issue, the narrators Irish accent is immaculate, but there aren’t any Irish people in the story. I don’t think I’ve ever come across somebody that can’t maintain an American accent, but this narrator really can’t. Especially when he is trying to portray an American woman, that’s when the Irish comes out really strongly.
Please, please, please. Producers. It’s quite simple to narrate an audiobook. You do the voices during the during the speech segments and you narrate as the narrators voice in between. Why are you trying to reinvent the wheel. The whole book feels wrong and I feel like I need my money back.
