Publisher Description
Tony Award-winning actor Leslie Odom Jr., who starred in the original cast of Hamilton, breathes new life into F. Scott Fitzgerald’s entertaining Jazz Age classic.
The Roaring Twenties are in full effect in the fictional Long Island beach towns of West and East Egg when Midwesterner Nick Carraway gets caught up in the orbit of man-about-town Jay Gatsby, host of some of the wildest, most extravagant parties you could ever imagine.
The Great Gatsby is a cautionary tale of wealth and excess and a bit of a scathing takedown of celebrity culture. With his mellifluous voice and acting chops, Leslie Odom Jr. is the perfect reader. He pulls us into this timeless story of an outsider looking in—and the impossible, but uniquely human, longing to return to the past.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" remains a shimmering, melancholic masterpiece, nearly a century after its publication. The novel's exploration of wealth, love, and the elusive American Dream continues to resonate with a haunting power. Fitzgerald's prose is simply breathtaking, painting vivid pictures of the roaring twenties and the extravagant lives of the wealthy elite.
The story, narrated through the eyes of Nick Carraway, unfolds with a delicate balance of admiration and disillusionment. Gatsby himself is an enigma, a man of immense wealth and mysterious origins, driven by a singular, all-consuming desire. The novel expertly contrasts the glittering facade of Gatsby's world with the underlying emptiness and moral decay.
While the novel's themes are timeless, some readers may find the pacing slow at times, and the characters, with the exception of Gatsby, somewhat unlikeable. Nevertheless, "The Great Gatsby" is a beautifully written and deeply affecting novel that deserves its place as an American classic. It's a poignant reminder of the dangers of chasing illusions and the enduring power of the past. 4 stars.
Captures the mood perfectly
I love this book, and I really enjoyed this audiobook- I thought the reader had just the perfect voice to narrate this tale. I hope he will do more F Scott Fitzgerald novels.
