A party that ends with a body floating in water. Detectives dogged by unresolved issues from the past. An investigation that straddles the border between two countries. A community buckling under the weight of secrets and resentment. These may not be entirely unique tropes for a crime thriller but that matters nothing when they’re put to such compelling use. Mackintosh carves a patient but deliciously snaking whodunnit from the drowning of a minor celebrity in the village of Cwm Coed on the Wales-England border. The story is told from multiple perspectives but two excellent characters in particular provide the enthralling focus: DC Ffion Morgan (from the Welsh Police) and English detective Leo Brady. Both convincing and complex, they form a tense and awkward—but surprisingly effective—partnership in an investigation that throws up plenty of suspects as well as some exhilarating twists.

*Village of Secrets*
The main character in this book is DC Ffion Morgan this is the first of two books possibly more. It is based in mainly in a Welsh village where everyone knows your business.
Every year there is a new year swim and as they all get ready to swim a body is found in the water. The identity of the body is Rhys Lloyd. He is was a failing once successful singer/showbiz person and with him turning up dead, there are as many questions as there are secrets. A lot of the villagers all had a reason to want him dead and DC Ffion Morgan is carrying an explosive secret of her own.
The location of the body means that Ffion has to share the case with DC Leo Brady from the Cheshire force, when they meet they instantly have an awkward moment because they have a secret of their own. Leo who is the only black person on the force is bullied constantly by his boss. Something that Ffion detests until he eventually Leo stands up for himself.
As they unpick the case they eventually make an arrest but have they got the right person?
Not many of the villagers have a kind word for Rhys and when they catch the murderer, is that the end of it? There is another shock coming from someone chose to Ffion will she do the right thing?

Really enjoyed this - all tied up nicely. Will read the next one instead of listening though - voices a bit annoying but appreciate how tricky it is to make them all sound different - but it did help me get used to the characters, as there were quite a few of them.
Oh dear
Lost Interest as the accents were terrible and so distracting I could t understand what was being said. That said the plot didn’t seem to be going anywhere. Sorry. Gave it a good go
