A spellbinding epic tale of ambition, anarchy, and absolute power set against the sprawling medieval canvas of twelfth-century England, this is Ken Follett's classic historical masterpiece.
The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known . . . of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect – a man divided in his soul . . . of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame . . . and of a struggle between good and evil that will turn church against state, and brother against brother.
The Pillars of the Earth is the first in The Kingsbridge Novels series, followed by World Without End and A Column of Fire.

The pillars of the earth
Loved it. Was fascinating and hard to put it down. Came across tv series too but not as good as the book.
This is by far the best of ken follet. This book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster from the first paragraph. Although it is long, I literally could not put it down and needed to read it at any opportunity.
Best book of all time!
My favourite book of all time! Can't wait for the miniseries on channel 4 in October!
