The Stars Look Down

I was absolutely gripped by this book. What a brilliantly well written and moving saga; it really gave me an insight into the conditions of the working classes in general and the miners in particular in the early nineteen hundreds. It is not a book I would read for myself, but listening to it as an audio book was easy. The narrator was wonderful - he really brought it life for me and he did the Geordie accents so well! It's enough to make anyone become an ardent supporter of the Labour party.

A good tale well written and read.

It's a bit of a saga but it is very well written and excellently read.

We follow the lives in and around a mining community leading up to WW1. A J Cronin writes with without sentimentality but conveys the story with emotion.

At over 30 hrs and at 95p this is a bargain audiobook.

The Stars Look Down - bargin?

Just buy it at 95p you have a bargin of a lifetime.

Forget the shuffling of paper you hear on the recording, just listen to the story.

Fantastic for long journeys, well seperated for resumming on short ones though.

It will leave you wanting more from this author from a bygone age.

Cheap but top notch at this price.
