A nursery story for adults

There is much to be said on the positive side for this novel: for starters, the author writes well.
But, and there are many buts: the story is discursive and prolonged; character traits are overly explained as if by an amateur psychologist; outcomes are either predictable or implausible. And, the whole is laced with saccharine. Although, I wanted to listen to something light and easy in these very troubled times, I gave up.
