'Thinner' - the old gypsy man barely whispers the word. Billy feels the touch of a withered hand on his cheek.
Billy Halleck, prosperous if overweight citizen, happily married, shuddered then turned angrily away. The old woman's death had been none of his fault. The courts had cleared him. She'd just stumbled in front of his car. Now he simply wanted to forget the whole messy business.
Later, when the scales told him he was losing weight, it was what the doctor ordered. His wife was pleased - as she should have been. But . . .
'Thinner' - the word, the old man's curse, has lodged in Billy's mind like a fattening worm, eating at his flesh, at his reason. And with his despair, comes violence.

Being a Stephen King fan since I was about 14, I've for some reason never read any of his novels when he was writing as Richard Bachman, but this did not disappoint. It's typical King, a great story with a decent amount of horror thrown in. Joe Mantegna of Criminal Minds fame is brilliant as a narrator once I got used to not thinking of him as "David Rossi from the telly" I'd highly recommend, it's a great way to kill 10 hours.
This is one of my favourite Stephen King novels and is very Atmospherically read. I really enjoyed the experience of listening to the whole production. It is genuinely scary.
Easily my favourite Stephen King novel. This book has a captivating story line, it's well narrated and has excellent production quality.
