Disappointed
I did not like the narrator at all, ruined the book
Cringe
I have really enjoyed many of this author’s books but this one, not so. The story line is fair but not exciting. The homophobic language and outdated comments about attractive young girls need to go. The number of times the two main characters refer to everyone by their full names made me crazy. People just don’t converse like that. Was the book supposed to be a comedy? Because if so, the horribly abusive mother and the very nasty assault were not in keeping. Unfortunately, the narration is unbearable. The voices of the characters are ridiculous and cartoonish and there is a staccato effect rather than a natural flow. I really struggled to reach the end and did so only because I paid good money for it.
Narrator poor
2 stars because I did finish listening to this book - but only because I was on a long drive. The book itself is okay - but the narrator really overplays it and ruins it. The voice swoops and trembles and overacts throughout. It is very irritating, and makes the characters irritating.
