*Love and Magic*

This was a lovely and fun read. The cast of characters were very likeable, and it was a unique take on the friends-to-lovers trope with a magical element. As the title suggests, a spell is cast.

We meet Gemma, who made a point of emphasising that her name is “Gemma with a ‘G’” (lol 😂). For the best part of four years, she had been in a relationship that felt like she was coasting. All the while, her best friend Dax has been by her side. They know each other so well that they even have their own telepathy.

Gemma’s relationship ends, and Dax picks up the pieces. She has a rather mystical aunt who dabbles in spells. After a drunken night out, she visits her aunt’s shop, and a spell is concocted that includes a kiss with Dax. She doesn’t go through with the kiss until later that evening.

When she wakes up, she finds herself in a parallel world. All the main characters are there, but Dax doesn’t recognise her. There’s a hilarious scene when she visits his shop, thinking he’s her best friend whom she knows and loves.

Despite this, we see how Gemma has to get to know Dax. There’s a point where she has to make a decision on a certain day: stay in this parallel universe or go back to her original time zone and try to fix things.

Which version of herself will she choose? And if she goes back, will she be happy with just being friends with Dax?

I loved Gemma’s aunt and her straightforward sister. They were a hoot!

This book is easy to read and a lot of fun.
