On starting this book I was not sure if it would be for me. But what I got was a romance and secrets.
This story is based in Toronto Canada and a lot of the time is spent in PEI (Prince Edward Island) Bridget’s family home.
Lucy and Bridget meet and become firm friends and then best friends. There are 3 rules that Bridget has always mentioned
1 - Eat your weight in oysters
2 - Leave the city behind
3 - Don’t fall in love with my brother
Well, unbeknownst to Bridget rule 3 was broken on the first time Lucy visits PEI. She meets a guy and they hook up and then she is alarmed when she finds out who he is. Lucy has always known Felix by his nickname Wolf and That was 5 years ago
Since that time over the years when Lucy & Bridget visit the island she tries her best to stay away from Felix.
We see how Lucy & Felix dance around each other and we watch the relationship between Lucy and Bridget grow.
The timeline flip flops over the 5 years that Lucy first meets Felix. We find out about the floristry shop that Lucy owns and about her as a character as the story is told from her point of view.
Bridget is due to get married and then she rushes off to the island with a big secret and wants Lucy to drop everything to visit but Bridget won’t talk.
The story is woven around the big secret that Bridget is keeping. It fell flat after all the tears and drama. Bridget’s secret was not what I expected and could have been discussed and not drawn out. When Lucy reveals what she has been withholding about Felix she is unprepared for Bridget’s response.
Overall it is what I would read on holiday and get swept away with. This is my first read from this author and I will check out more from her.
