Classic performance of a classic novel
Peter Barker's reading of Laurence Sterne's masterpiece is a masterpiece in itself. his performance is every bit as quirky and playful as the text itself. He makes occasional asides to the listener ("...and so we continue with Chapter 15 of The Life And Times Of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman). And where Sterne tails off a sentence with three dots... to leave an innuendo hanging, Mr Barker tails off into discreet little "Hmmm hmmm hmmm" noises - it's hilarious. His audible page turnings and discreet throat clearings are all part of the fun. I've now listened to this audiobook dozens of times and always find something new each time I go back to it... Warmly recommended...
Poor Recording
Fantastic novel, and it's a shame about this recording because the narrator has a good voice. But there are constant audible page turns, the sound of him clearing his throat, and mispronunciation of, for example, 'Don Quixote'.
