The third volume in Stephen Fry’s exploration of The Greek Myths fulfils his Herculean task with a flourish. He delivers a brilliant retelling of the epic story of Troy—the kidnapping of Helen and the following Greek siege of the city details heroism, revenge, love and loss. Fry injects back-breaking passion into each of the characters for a thrilling listen that crucially requires no expert knowledge of earlier instalments, Mythos and Heroes. Excelling in understanding that most listeners have an awareness of the stories through big-budget screen adaptations, Troy truly excels when an unhampered Fry is able to drill down into spellbinding detail and compelling etymologies. A rich and comprehensive triumph.

An epic adventure comes alive
I’ve absolutely loved this audiobook. Stephen Fry has a real magic for storytelling that’s equally compelling as it is humorous. I love that characters somehow become Welsh and West Country at times!
Highly recommend series of books.
A balanced and sensitive treatment
This review applies to both the textual and audio versions of the book. Stephen Fry weaves an authentic retelling of Homer’s Iliad ,while taking great care to place it in its mythological and archeological context in a most accessible yet accurate way. I am very grateful for his work.
