This audiobook contains exclusive bonus content between Drs Chris and Xand van Tulleken, where they deep-dive into what you've just listened to at the end of each part.
An eye-opening investigation into the science, economics, history and production of ultra-processed food.
It's not you, it's the food.
We have entered a new 'age of eating' where most of our calories come from an entirely novel set of substances called Ultra-Processed Food, food which is industrially processed and designed and marketed to be addictive. But do we really know what it's doing to our bodies?
Join Chris in his travels through the world of food science and a UPF diet to discover what's really going on. Find out why exercise and willpower can't save us, and what UPF is really doing to our bodies, our health, our weight, and the planet (hint: nothing good).
For too long we've been told we just need to make different choices, when really we're living in a food environment that makes it nigh-on impossible. So this is a book about our rights. The right to know what we eat and what it does to our bodies and the right to good, affordable food.

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Behold, a book that might genuinely impact how and what you eat. We’ve all been (temporarily) shocked by horrifying things we’ve read about the unhealthier end of our diets, but here Chris van Tulleken—one of the BBC’s lead science presenters and an infections diseases doctor at London's Hospital for Tropical Diseases—lays out a highly persuasive case for why it’s time to truly cut out “ultra-processed” food. True to his broadcasting style, van Tulleken isn’t preachy—he’s instead engaging, darkly funny and quietly furious that we’ve become so hooked on this addictive and potentially dangerous food that’s also harming our planet. You’ll come away armed with the knowledge and passion to make better choices about what we do to our bodies.

This book will save humans and maybe the planet too
It’s changed my life and made me realise where a lot of my difficulties came from. Don’t let companies rip you off! Read this book and don’t give big corporations another penny.
Worth the time to read.
Overall the book is commendable and the author communicates the remarkable scale of the issues surrounding food very well.
I found listening to the audiobook worthwhile, given the additional clarity it adds overall. The bonus content is also great with more reflections and discussion.
I would recommend this to anyone who has previously depended on countless health shakes and nutrient bars for their nutrition - this book reveals a lot!
Mind altering
Very good book. Very thorough and evidence based. The audiobook was read a bit too fast at times, so I had to slow it down to .75 to really absorb the detail. But it’s a minor point. I’ll probably read it again.
